These pinch valves were originally designed and patented by the
company "Martco" some 50 years ago. Many valves sold at that time are still in
operation and have been effectively maintained by renewing the sleeves from time
to time. Being in the portfolio of an electrical company – MARTCO – the product
had not been actively marketed for some years.
ATVAL has now redesigned the
valve and
uprated the sleeve, so that the valve now has a 1000 kPa minimum pressure rating
throughout its size range.
The valve is supplied with a wide range
of sleeve trims to meet exact medium and flow specifications, and can be
supplied with manual handwheel operation, or may be fitted with all types of
actuators for either ON/OFF or accurate flow control. Sleeve material options
are shown in more detail in the information relating to “Sleeve Selection” (see
Section 6.4).
This valve is unique in its design and
combines the technology of GATE, DIAPHRAGM and PINCH VALVES to offer the user a
very cost effective product for handling abrasives and corrosive mediums. The
streamlined flow design only marginally restricts flow when the valve is in the
fully open position and has approximately 90% of the area and 95% of the flow of
full bore valves. It out-performs and outlasts Diaphragm valves and is possibly
the best valve available on the market at this time, for precise control of
slurries and similar applications.
The valve, which is completely interchangeable with diaphragm valves to BS 5156
length standards, has been specially designed for flow control, which begins as
soon as the valve starts to close and provides an almost true linear flow
characteristic. Oversized pipeline conditions can be easily corrected, using
reduced port sleeves so that the valve control remains within the 20% to 80%
opening parameters, which ensures extended sleeve life and enhances the
controlling performance.
